We started because the statement never matched the app
Humbg began in 2019 with a small, specific irritation: the balance in the app and the balance on the statement were different numbers, and nobody could explain why. We decided the fix was architectural, not cosmetic.
One ledger, one truth
Most banking software stores a balance and edits it. We derive it. Every movement is a balanced pair of postings, and the number on your dashboard is a query over that history. It is a harder way to build, and it is the reason the numbers agree.
- Derived, not storedNo balance field exists to drift out of step with history.
- Balanced or rejectedA posting that does not sum to zero never reaches the database.
- Explained, not hiddenThe fee, the rate and the resulting balance are shown before you commit.

Show the cost before the commitment
Any screen that moves money states the fee and the resulting balance first. If we cannot show it, we do not ship the screen.
Prefer boring infrastructure
A ledger that reconciles beats a feature that impresses. We choose the durable option and write it down.
Make support reachable
A real reply from a person who can see the transaction. Not a chatbot with a knowledge base.
Say what we do not do
Where a boundary exists — regulation, insurance, rails — we state it plainly on the page rather than in a footnote.
The people accountable for this
Amara Okafor
Co-founder & CEO
Spent nine years in transaction banking before deciding the statement should be the source of truth.
Diego Marín
Co-founder & CTO
Built settlement systems for two payment processors. Writes the reconciliation code himself.
Priya Nair
Head of Product
Came from a design studio. Believes a fee you cannot see is a fee you did not agree to.
Noah Bergman
Head of Risk & Compliance
Former regulator. Writes the boundary statements, including the ones on this page.
Come and look at the ledger
Open an account, make a transfer, then check the reconciliation report for yourself.
